April 26, 2019

I woke up feeling well-rested and had breakfast in my lodging. The coffee was extra strong, which I appreciated. I assembled an extra bit of breakfast and stuck it in my bag for later 🙂 Today I was officially leaving the Pas-de-Calais ‘department’ of France and entered into the Somme ‘department.’
It had rained the night before, and it was cool and wet, but bright and cheery. The route started on a precarious bit of highway but I was in good spirits.

Along the path I encountered another war cemetery. I can’t include every one I encounter because they’re so many, but I spent some time here with the men from Manchester.

Soon after I continued I noticed there were fellow pilgrims in front of me. I hadn’t encountered any since the Belgian man and his son in Licques.

But they soon turned left on an alternate path and I kept going straight, so I never actually met them.

My feet started acting up again in Roquigny, so I stopped at the church and took my shoes off for a bit.

But then the sun came out for the rest of the day. I just listened to music and kept on truckin’.

Around 2pm the route linked up to the ‘Canal du Nord’

These pictures were in the country right outside of Peronne. The town was really cute but I didn’t take any pictures because I was focused on finding my lodging.

The place where I stayed was actually in Doingt, next to the River Somme right outside Peronne. The name of the gîte is ‘Le Coq en Pate’ which I learned is a french expression “like a rooster in paste,” meaning to be safe and well-cared for. It started to rain about an hour after I checked in and it was supposed to rain all day tomorrow. 46 km tomorrow to Chauny, so I set my alarm early.
Just caught up. I’d been thinking of you and it was so great to read your words. You’re amazing.
