April 25, 2019

I woke up with all the hope I could muster today. I was going to get back at it. As I left the apartment, and walked up my street to walk through town, I looked down and saw this.

I hadn’t seen it on the other days I was out. It delighted me, and I took it as a sign everything would work out okay.

I also had to walk past the bell tower again, and it was fortunate I did because I got to see it before the market set up (that whole space is usually filled with vendors).
I also got to see a little more of Arras.

After about 6km I was out of the Arras suburbs and back into the beautiful country. The forecast called for rain and it was really windy, but I didn’t mind the change.

Shortly after entering Boisleux-Saint-Marc I encountered the WWI Sunken Road Cemetery. The fallen were from various places, including Germany.

Then the wind really picked up 🙂
But it gave all the windmills plenty to do!

And I encountered a small chapel (built in 1934) that is currently being used for pilgrims to Rome:

It even had a pilgrim shell!

And a register I signed.

Then it was back to the trail.

The clouds started to lift and it seemed as if it wasn’t going to rain after all.

As I turned out of the brush and back into farm land, I was quick enough to catch some bunnies on the camera. They’re out a lot, but they’re so fast I never catch them in time.

I didn’t take many pictures in the afternoon. Bapaume is a cute little town and I liked my lodging. It was a simple hotel right on the main street (and the VF route). I showered, texted with a friend, did a bit of work, and had to decide whether to walk the two blocks to get dinner or eat a leftover croissant from breakfast for dinner. I had the croissant with tea, then told myself that popular lie of the exhausted: I’m just going to rest my eyes. 🙂
(A big shout-out to my feet for rallying. ❤ )
