Day 5: Licques

April 18, 2019

Sunrise from my front porch in Licques

I slept 9 hours last night. That’s the longest sleep I’ve had in over a week. It felt good. The shower here is amazing, strong and hot. I had one last night and another this morning just because I could. I made some coffee and stretched and enjoyed the beautiful morning for a while. It was one of those crisp chilly mornings but with a sun so strong you know it’s going to warm up soon.

After a while I knew I had to take care of my sore bits, so I drained some blisters (I know, gross) and put some antiseptic on them. I did some more stretches and massaged sore muscles.

Midday: alternating resting and working while my laundry dries.

I won’t even lie to you all: I didn’t leave the grounds once. I had thought I might walk back into town today, and Delphine offered to drive me into town, too, but it’s so beautiful here I just couldn’t bring myself to leave. I got in touch with a few of the people I’m staying with this weekend and next week to settle plans, I did some work, I planned (or double-checked) upcoming routes. I washed all of my clothes, I meditated, I read, I wrote yesterday’s journal entry. It was wonderful. I was carrying one ’emergency ration’ (an MRE that I was saving for dire circumstances). Well, I hope I don’t encounter a real emergency because that and the left over pastries are what I ate today. 🙂

An extra-long scan of the back yard while the sun sets (I don’t want to leave, yet.) 🙂

I hope I get good rest again tonight. Another double stage tomorrow: Licques to Wisques.
